Hi,
My name is Christine (Yost)
Vaishville. My mother, Norma (Petersen) Yost is the grand niece of
Luis Emeterio Torres Melendez and Amelia Monteverde Morales. Her
grandmother was Dolores Monteverde Grunig. My mother lived with
General Luis E. Torres in the 1316 Westlake Ave Los Angeles home for
the last 2 years of his life. The general was cared for by my mom’s
aunt, Amelia Carricarte (a favorite niece of the general), because
her own mother suffered from what we now know was manic depression
and had been admitted to the state mental institution in Stockton,
CA. When the general died in 1935, her Aunt Amelia returned to her
husband in Mexico with her own 3 children, but could not afford to
take my mother and her brother and sister with her. She had no
money and could not afford the $4,000 mortgage still owed on the
1316 Westlake home. My mother and her siblings returned to San
Francisco, where they had spent there early youth, and lived as
wards of the state in foster homes. My mom graduated from Balboa
High in SF and then UC Berkeley, where she met my father. They both
still reside in the Bay Area.
Dolores Monteverde Grunig married
George Grunig and had 3 children: Amelia, Eva (my grandmother) and
George (Jr). Amelia married Roberto Carricarte & had 6 children –
Chuy, Loli, Roberto (and 3 others whose names my mom knows). Eva
married Rudolph Petersen and had Marie, Norma & William (Bill).
William (Bill) married Shirley and had Kurt and __ (a brother whose
name I forget).
I have MUCH more information and
pictures of the general with my mom, her siblings, Aunt Amelia and
her children in Los Angeles and tons of other photos of the general
in Hermosillo. Feel free to contact me if anyone wishes to learn
more.I DID, AND SHE DID NOT
REPLY.
